Supporting People who have Behaviours that Challenge
The focus of the course includes a brief introduction to the environmental influences on behaviour and how the environment and its influences are often, largely, social.
Student will learn core competencies of direct care professionals with an emphasis on procedural integrity and program adherence.
Outcomes in this course include functional or environmental explanations but would avoid terms such as “socially mediated negative reinforcement”. The course focuses on patience and understanding and understanding what your role/job is as specified in a behaviour support plan.
The course also focuses on how to integrate both the person- centred plan or individual support plan and a behavioural support plan. The values and actions in these plans should be complimentary not conflicted.
